How to embed a YouTube video on Medium

Embedding a YouTube video on Medium is very simple, but there’s a step that isn’t obvious to all users.

I know this because I actually just had to Google “how to embed a YouTube post on Medium.”

Since the first answer that comes up is actually a video, I thought I’d post the information here too for anyone who needs the info.

So let’s get to it.

Every time you start a new paragraph, to the left you’ll see a plus sign that looks like this:

Hit that plus sign and you’ll see this:

To embed, something, you’ll want to hit the brackets, or <>.

After you’ve copied the link from the YouTube video you want to embed, you paste it into that embed spot.

The trick to embedding on Medium

Now here’s where I ran into trouble. Say you’re writing writing writing, and you want to come back and paste your link into a spot you’ve cleared for it. You hit the +, you hit the <>, you paste your link and … nothing happens. It looks like this:

Here’s the simple step that people (myself included), miss: they paste the link but they don’t know that they have to hit enter.
